Dallas hospital stumbles in early response to Ebola
Rick Jervis, USA TODAY 8:35 a.m. EDT October 14, 2014
DALLAS – Before the country’s first Ebola patient showed up at its emergency room, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas
was a respected, renowned hospital.
But a string of possible missteps in the wake of the Ebola crisis here has heaped negative publicity on the 898-bed facility and raised questions as to whether other, lesser-equipped hospitals are ready to deal with an Ebola outbreak.
Health care executives across the USA are closely monitoring developments at Texas Health Dallas as the medical staff treats its second Ebola patient in less than a month, hoping to learn from its successes as well as its errors. A hospital nurse, Nina Pham, 26, tested positive for the virus over the weekend and is being treated in isolation at the hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman declined to comment for this article.
