Potash marketing cartel Canpotex wins five-year Indian supply deal

SASKATOON - Potash marketing cartel Canpotex Ltd. said Thursday it has signed a five-year agreement to supply India's Coromandel International Ltd. with up to three million tonnes of potash.
Terms of deal were not released. However, a similar deal for a three million tonne supply with China's Sinofert was valued at US$2.2 billion.
Canpotex has agreed to supply the Indian company with at least 500,000 tonnes a year between April 1, 2011 and March 31, 2016.
"This agreement confirms Canpotex's long-term commitment to the important Indian market, and reflects the confidence our Indian partner, CIL, has in Canpotex's ability to meet their growing potash requirements," Canpotex CEO Steve Dechka said in a statement.
Canpotex is owned by the three major companies producing potash in Saskatchewan, Agrium Inc. (TSX:AGU), Mosaic Canada (NYSE:MOS) and Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (TSX:POT), which is the target of a hostile takeover attempt by Anglo-Irish miner BHP Billiton.
Agrium supplies Canpotex with 9.28 per cent of its potash, Mosaic 37.11 per cent and PotashCorp 53.61 per cent.

SINGAPORE: Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE) on Tuesday said it would help Congo develop three special economic zones, including a brand-new city of 10 million people.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Alphonsus Chia, CEO of SCE, and Congo's Minister at the Presidency in charge of Special Economic Zones, Alain Akouala Atipault.
According to an agreement reached with the Republic of Congo, SCE will work with Singapore public agencies and private-sector companies.
These agencies and companies will help Congo's government conduct technical feasibility studies on potential special economic zones and develop a master plan for each of the identified sites.
Congo has identified three such locations: a land area of 1660 hectares, 50 km north of the port city of Pointe Noire, to house industrial activities linked to its oil extraction industry; a land area surrounding the new international airport of Ollombo for high value added agricultural and manufacturing activities; and a land area of 6000 sq km on both banks of the river Kouilou at Madingo Kayes, about 65 km North West of Pointe Noire, which will be developed into a new city with an international port and international airport to cater for a population of 10 million. It will also be the service hub of Central and East Africa.
Congo is the 6th country in the Sub-Saharan Africa that SCE has signed an MOU with since its inception in 2006.
The other countries are Kenya, Kingdom of Lesotho, Mauritius, Rwanda and Togo.
